CONCLUSION
Like the sonata, the novel is highly dramatic - with both the works opening with an adagio sustenuto and giving false starts, dropping hints on the arguments that the book would, later on, delve into and elaborate in the narrative of Posdnicheff, a man whose outlook on marriage was so naive that when he faced the reality of it, he could not see where his shortcomings lay until the very last moment where, in a fit of madness and rage of jealousy, kills his wife.
The book and the first movement ends in a grim and wild tone, leaving the audience/reader at the edge of their seat and breaths held.
I have analyzed both the piece and the story, trying to see which part ends and which one starts, and I'd like to think I have done a pretty good job of sectioning it. Of course, the pacing is different, with the word count being more than the minutes of the music, but it completes the scenes.
By doing this research, I realized how easy words could fit inside the music. Though the saying may go, "music speaks where words fail", I think words can still describe what music intends to deliver, albeit the interpretation may be different for each person. The narrative may come in different ways, but the intention towards the audience is clear.
They both tell a story, music and words.
As to where I will go from here, I'd like to challenge myself this time, by making my own 'music to words' project.
