Inside MERAKI

The word ‘Meraki’ is an untranslatable Greek word that is used to describe doing something with soul and total love; to leave a piece of yourself in your creative work. I chose this because it relates to two things I love doing the most: playing music and writing.
I chose the Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D Major because not only because is it a piece I have always wanted to play, but also because I can relate the music to myself. I have also written poetry that goes along with the concerto since words are another way for me to express myself.
As I play, one can refer to the poems and see how the words and music reflect each other. In this way, I can show how two quite different things are actually similar to each other, and as they combine, it creates something lovely and meaningful.
